yet another embarrassment coming out of the 48th state, my current home. it really is a great place - awesome surroundings, good people, lots to do - but the crap that goes on there is mind-boggling.

i'm a scientist and certainly think math and science is important in a child's education. but i hate how the first things cut are the arts - as if they're not as important. perhaps it's because my wife is an artist and art teacher who is directly affected by these budget cuts in arizona. regardless, i wish music and art weren't the first things to go whenever cuts are discussed...
